This maple fudge recipe is sweet and savory. It’s loaded with all the great sweetness we like in a fudge recipe but also the bacon adds a nice level of saltiness that makes this recipe unique.

When it comes to making fudge, you can’t go wrong…in my book it’s all fantastic but if you are looking for something a little different, a little fun, this is the fudge recipe to try.

Here is what you need for maple fudge:

This ingredient list includes everything you need to make some candied bacon. You can use bacon bits or a few strips of real bacon. Whatever you have on hand will work fine. I prefer the real bacon bits…because they’re real bacon. They’re the type that will work best for this recipe if you don’t have bacon on hand!

  • 1 12 ounce bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup of real bacon bits or 5-6 pieces of bacon
  • 1/3 cup of maple syrup, divided
  • ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 8×8 baking pan lined with parchment paper
  • Cooking spray

Why do I line the pan with parchment paper?

Lining the baking pan with parchment makes it so much easier to pull the fudge out of the pan. Once it’s cooled you can easily put it onto the cutting board so that you get nice even pieces.

When you leave it in the pan it’s hard to scoop out and it is almost impossible to get even sized pieces. The parchment paper makes it really simple and it doesn’t take much time to do this step, I wouldn’t skip it.

How to make my maple fudge recipe:

  1. Spray pan with cooking spray and cover bottom and sides of the pan with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Pre-heat oven to 300.
  3. If using real bacon bits, Mix the bacon bits, ¼ cup maple syrup and the brown sugar. Spread evenly onto a baking mat and cook about 10 minutes. Take from oven and allow to cool.
  4. If you are using real bacon strips, place on the baking mat, brush with the maple/brown sugar mixture and bake for 10-15 minutes or until crispy. Take from oven and allow to cool.
  5. Melt chips in microwave in 30 second bursts until completely melted and smooth. Do not cook for more than 30 seconds at a time or you will burn them.
  6. Mix in the sweetened condensed milk until smooth. Mix in the vanilla, salt and remaining maple syrup.
  7. Chop your candied bacon into small pieces.
  8. Fold the 2/3 of the bacon into the mixture.
  9. Pour the mixture into the pan and press the remainder of the candied bacon onto the top of the fudge.
  10. Cover baking pan with foil and place in refrigerator until fudge is firm. Place fudge on cutting board and cut into 1-2” pieces and enjoy!

  1. Hi!
I made the Maple bacon fudge, delicious, but it will not set for me. Even put it in the freezer. Still soft. I used milk chocolate chips instead of semi sweet. Did I do anything wrong do you think?

    1. Milk chocolate and semi sweet chocolate don’t work the same in the recipe. Semi sweet chocolate chips set harder where milk chocolate probably won’t. I can’t say for sure that this is the issue but it seems likely that is the cause.
