Why make DIY window cleaner?

There are many reasons people choose to make their own cleaning products. For me, it’s about a few things…cost, ingredients, and ease of use. If I have the things on hand to make a homemade glass cleaner, it’s a no brainer.

These photos show the homemade glass cleaner in a kind of generic bottle that is plastic, I had it on hand so I used it.

Keep in mind you can also cut this recipe in half and use the glass spray bottles that you might have on hand from other DIY cleaning products and reusable sprayer bottles.

Another thing to consider is pets! If you have dogs or cats in the house that lick your windows or even put their paws on them consistently you might not want to spray those surfaces with a bunch of chemicals with 27 letter names!

Here is what you will need to make this homemade glass cleaner at home:

Check out the recipe card at the bottom of the post for the amounts and how to mix them together properly but to make this simple recipe you’ll need a handful of common household ingredients.

It starts with water, vinegar, and rubbing alcohol. Then we’ll add in some cornstarch and mix it all up! This really is a cheap and easy recipe to put together.

I enjoy that all of these ingredients are always in my pantry or my bathroom closet. I can whip up a batch whenever I need some!

How to mix up a batch of DIY glass cleaner:

First we need to combine all the liquids in the bottle and give it a good shake.

Next, we’ll add the cornstarch and shake it all up again. You can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil for some scent if you’d like and give the bottle one final shake.

Now you are ready to spray the windows and give them a good scrub. If you have old newspapers on hand use them to wipe down the windows! It sounds crazy but they work so well!

Be sure to shake the bottle up a bit before each use to keep the ingredients from separating!
