To make broccoli salad at home you’ll need a few heads of broccoli, some sugar, water, mayonnaise, cheese, onions, vinegar, and bacon. It’s a simple lineup but the flavors really come together to create something delicious.

This is a pretty classic broccoli salad recipe too so you don’t have to worry about any overwhelming flavors coming at you…no sneaky fruit in this one!

Making a classic broccoli salad:

Once all of your vegetables are chopped it’s just a matter of mixing up the dressing ingredients. This recipe is very easy. It’s essentially a two step recipe…just prep the vegetables, combine the dressing ingredients, and pour that mixture over the salad.

Ingredients

  • 2 chopped heads of broccoli crowns (approx 4 cups)
  • 4 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1/3 cup hot water
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 pound chopped sharp cheddar
  • 1 minced red onion
  • 2 pounds cooked and crumbled bacon
  • 4 tablespoons vinegar

Instructions

    1. Dissolve the sugar in the hot water and pour over the broccoli.
    2. Stir in the rest of the ingredients and chill for at least two hours in the refrigerator before serving.
    3. Best served cold.
