Laundry is often the most dreaded chore in homes today. Knowing How To Organize the Laundry Room will help you to manage this necessary task with ease. From how much laundry detergent you have on hand, to how to make the most of the space available, you’ll love these handy tips.
How to Organize The Laundry Room:
Let me start by saying that keeping any room of the house organized is a constant work in progress. There will always be some clutter if I’m not constantly and consciously attacking it! When it comes to figuring out how to organize the laundry room the best thing you can be is consistent!
Sort your laundry as you take clothing off.
Buy your family a set of sorting hampers for each bathroom or bedroom. The ones that have 3 hampers are best because you can sort whites, darks, and delicates easily as you take them off. Then when laundry day comes, all you have to do is empty each bag and you are set to go.
Invest in a shelf or table to put baskets on.
A set of shelves or a table in your laundry room gives you the ability to set up laundry baskets for clothing to be folded and put back into for easy delivery into bedrooms. Give each family member a basket of their own. Color code, or add a name label to keep them straight so everyone knows what basket is theirs to grab for putting clothing away.
These baskets can also be used in their rooms throughout the week to fill up with their laundry that needs done!

Use above washer and dryer storage spaces for extra supplies.
Don’t let those shelves or empty space above your washer and dryer go to waste. Use above washer and dryer storage for extra laundry supplies like detergent, stain remover, fabric softener, bleach, and starch.
There are handy little shelving units that are designed to go around your laundry units so you can utilize that empty space above them without having to attach anything to the walls…let’s face it, most of us aren’t tall enough or limber enough to reach shelves that far up and back anyway…right?!
Always keep hangers on hand to cut down on clutter in the laundry room.
When pulling dress clothes from your dryer, you can easily hang them back up without fuss when you have hangers on hand. This helps eliminate wrinkles and saves time for you later.
Hangers are also useful when pulling delicates and non-dryer items out of the wash. You can hang them on a hanger, let them dry, and then they go directly into the closet!
Fold clothes as you pull from the dryer to keep the laundry room organized.
This method saves a ton of time and hassle. Simply fold your clothes as you pull them out of the dryer and stack into the appropriate basket for their owner to put away later. This is also a great time for a table. If you don’t like to be constantly bending down to get into the dryer you can pull everything out onto the table and fold it at a more comfortable level.
Make it a fun task!
Keeping the laundry room organized and functional is great but laundry is still not my favorite task. One way I’ve found that helps to keep things from piling up is folding laundry while I catch up on my favorite shows.
I can fold laundry…kind of mindlessly…while I watch TV and hang out in the living room. It’s a great way to make the laundry more of a treat and less of a dreaded task.
Add a clothing rack to help organize the laundry room.
All of these clothing racks are a great option for keeping the laundry room clean and figuring out how to organize the laundry room on a budget. It gives you space to hang up clothing to dry, organize baskets or fabric bins, and you can use the bottom as storage for laundry detergent and other cleaning supplies.
