What is a hand pie?

A hand pie like these cherry hand pies is basically just a pop tart. We all know what pop tarts are, right?! It’s a crust with a filling that is gooey and tasty.

In other words a hand pie is literally a serving of pie that you can eat with your hands without looking like a deranged raccoon!

What ingredients do I need to make cherry hand pies with canned filling?

You got it! This cherry hand pie recipe uses canned filling. It’s just so much easier. If you really like to make your own pie filling you can definitely do that first and and then make these cherry hand pies…I for one will just be using the canned stuff.

It’s simple, straight to the point, tasty, and it makes my life a lot easier: more time with family, less time in the kitchen, it’s a win.

For this easy recipe you’ll need the following ingredients: pre-made pie crusts, canned cherry pie filling, and eggs. That’s literally it. If you haven’t guessed it yet we’re pretty much just wrapping up pie filling here and baking it to make a tasty treat everyone will devour.

How to make cherry hand pies:

This recipe is made using the air fryer. You could probably use the regular oven to do this as well. Just keep an eye on your baking time! If you have a smaller air fryer, don’t despair, you can still make these hand pies you just need to do them one or two at a time depending on how big you make them!

Roll out the pie crust and use heart shaped cookie cutters to cut out hearts.

Take a half a spoonful of cherry pie filling and place it in the middle of half of your hearts.

Place the remaining hearts on top of the Cherry topped hearts and use a fork to mend together.

Place in the air fryer for 12-15 minutes at 350 degrees.

  • 1 Egg

Instructions

Preheat oven to 400. Roll out the pie crust and use heart shaped cookie cutters to cut out hearts. Take a half a spoonful of cherry pie filling and place it in the middle of half of your hearts. Place the remaining hearts on top of the Cherry topped hearts and use a fork to mend together. Refrigerate for 10 mins Egg wash each cherry pie. Place in the oven and bake for 20 to 23 minutes
