One factor to consider is if it’s ripe or still young. The immature fruit is pale green and a thin skin so it’s easier to cut through. On the other hand, the ripe one has pale yellow to dark green skin that is tough to peel.
The ripeness of the zucchini also affects the seed size. Young vegetables have less developed seeds and fewer of them. On the other hand, the ripe ones have bigger seeds as they’re more developed.
How To Clean Young Zucchini

Instructions
- Wash the vegetable thoroughly to remove any dirt clinging to the skin.
- Hold the young zucchini by the stem. Do not remove this part of the vegetable just yet as you need it to make this process easier.
- Peel the skin using a knife or a peeler. Remove the skin in a manner that points away from you, not toward you.
- After peeling the entire skin raw, cut the rear area of the zucchini. Place it on top of a cutting board and use your knife to get rid of that part.
- Slice into the pieces you need for your recipe.
- Keep in mind that with young zucchini you can also just eat the skin as it is tender and will cook to a consistency that is mild.

- Cut the rear portion and the stem. Place it on top of a cutting board to help support its weight.
- Using a knife, cut the vegetable into half and spoon the seeds to remove it from the innards. Put the seeds aside to dispose of later.
- Gently peel off the tough skin of the zucchini.
- Once it is completely rid of the dense skin, cut it into the desired pieces for your recipe.
