I love cotton candy. It’s one of those sweet treats that I just can’t resist when summer rolls around. The fairs and carnivals roll into town and I have to have a bag of cotton candy!

When the coffee shops started serving cotton candy Frappuccinos I had to find a way to make them at home. Since they’re seasonal they disappear from the menu in the fall.

Thanks to this incredible (and super easy) frappuccino recipe we can enjoy the cotton candy flavor year-round from the convenience of our own homes.

Not to mention this version is much cheaper than buying one even once a week from your local coffee spot.

How is a frappuccino different from a milkshake?

Milkshakes typically don’t include ice which is one of the big differences. The other difference (depending on where you live) is the ice cream itself.

It seems to be a regional difference in the United States at least, between what is considered a frappe and what is called a milkshake. In this case, we’re going with frappuccino because of the flavoring additives and the ice!

You can make your frappuccino stand out by adding some cotton candy sugar to the rim of the glass for an extra special presentation.

Can I make cotton candy ice cream out of this recipe?

You can certainly try it! I would leave out the ice and mix the whipped cream right into the blender and then put it into a container to freeze overnight. You can scoop it out softer before then but at least 4 hours of freezing time is going to be necessary to get it back to ice cream consistency!

You can also just use this cotton candy ice cream recipe to make your own delicious flavorful ice cream recipe.

Can I just use cotton candy ice cream to make this frappe?

I would think the flavor would be a little off, I’ve never tried it that way. But you could use the cotton candy ice cream and then leave out the flavorings and just blend it up with ice and milk!

Do I need a special blender to make this work at home?

No, not really. I’ve tried this recipe in everything from our big fancy Ninja blender to something as simple as my single serving bottle blender. You’ll get better consistency with something that is capable of really pulverizing the ice but any blender should do the trick and get the job done!
