What does it mean to make ‘infused’ water recipes?

Infused water recipes are essentially just water recipes that have fruit, herbs, and other items added. You steep the fruit and herbs in the water like you would when making tea. The essence of those natural additives is then left in the water so when you drink it there is a great natural flavor!

Why are natural infused water recipes better than buying fruit flavored water at the store?

Many fruit flavored waters in stores have sweetener, which defeats the purpose of drinking water to being with. Also, natural infused water recipes have no chemical additives. Many fruit flavored beverages are chemically created and not always made with natural fruit flavorings!

What is the benefit of drinking fruit infused water?

Fruit infused water is a great way to get more servings of water in a day while also getting some benefits from the natural additives. Fruit and even herbs, like mint, have great natural properties that can boost the sense, aid in metabolism, and even help fend off those pesky cold and flu viruses.

I’m not a doctor and I would never suggest that you use infused water as a remedy for an illness. The benefits of drinking more water have been studied heavily though and the general conclusion is that it’s a good idea! For me, infused water recipes are an excellent way to keep myself from growing bored of plain old water.

Should I use spring water or filtered water?

I’m partial to spring water. Filtered water is basically the same as whatever is coming out of your faucets. After all, filtered water is just that, water that has been filtered and treated. Spring water is typically (not in all cases) is more natural and usually has more natural minerals and a better taste!

Can you use filtered water to make your own infused water recipes? Absolutely. That’s totally up to you.

What other fun tricks can I use to get myself to drink more water?

Find a reusable water bottle or travel mug that you love! This has been a big one for me. If I have a travel mug that I love using I want to be drinking out of it all the time anyway, why not have that drink be ice cold water!

Another way I’ve found that I drink more water is when there is a straw involved. For some reason I’ll happily drink way more water when I have a straw in my travel mug. I have a bunch of reusable ones that fit right into my water bottles, makes it simple and helps me drink more water.

Finally, mix it up! Add different flavors, different fruit, oils, etc. If you don’t get bored of drinking water you’ll be more inclined to keep at it!

What do I need to make my own infused water?

  • 1 gallon of fresh spring water
  • 2-3 sprigs of mint
  • 1/2 cumber,sliced
  • 1 sliced lime
  • 6 fresh quartered strawberries

Can I add essential oils to my infusion blend?

You can! I love to add citrus oils to my water recipes. Remember that if you add citrus oils  you should be using a glass or stainless container for your water. Citrus oils especially can be corrosive to plastic overtime and they’ll degrade the bottles or cups you use them in if they’re made of plastic.
