We use whipped cream or cool whip style toppings for all kinds of desserts, fruit, and drinks in our house. It’s easy to buy the cans or tubs of this stuff but when it comes down to it, the most natural option is to throw together a few simple ingredients and whip some up myself!

Let’s take a look at what you need to make whipped cream at home!

What do I need to make whipped cream at home?

  • 2 Cups heavy cream
  • 6 Tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 4 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon vanilla

Do I have to use heavy cream?

Yes! The ingredients are important for this one so don’t change them up if you want this recipe to come out properly. Half and half and other substitutes won’t whip up properly.

These ingredients are easy to scale up or down if you need to make more or less whipped cream so keep that in mind.

What kitchen tools that will make this recipe super easy?

We couldn’t live without our Kitchen Aid. It was well worth the investment, we’ve had ours for what seems like forever. The same goes with pretty much everyone we know. They really do last a long time and if you bake and cook a lot you’ll get plenty of use out of it! Whipping things and making stuff like shredded chicken are a breeze!

This recipe will benefit from a pastry bag! You can load the finished whipped cream into a pastry bag to pipe it onto your drinks, desserts, and more! Of course you can always just serve it up with a spoon but if you want to make it look fancy there’s nothing easier than a disposable pastry bag!

To chill your bowl just place it into the fridge or freezer if there is room to keep it nice a cold during the whipping process. This will help keep your whipped cream at the right texture.

  1. Add all ingredients in a chilled bowl

Can you freeze this for later use? How long does it keep in the fridge and freezer?

I have never tried freezing it, so I can’t answer to that. It keeps in the refrigerator for a day or two then gets runny. Thanks for asking.
