Can I use different chips when making these cookies?

You can absolutely use whatever flavor or variety of chips you like in these cookies. If you want to mix it up with colorful or different flavored chips, go for it! Sometimes we get wild and throw in butterscotch or peanut butter chips but things like the mint ones or even keto / vegan options are a great substitute for the chocolate chips if you want to try out different combinations.

If you have kids in the house who want to pick out the flavors, don’t stress, this recipe is pretty forgiving, most varieties of baking chips will work great.

Can I try different cake mixes?

Feel free to use whatever cake mix you have on hand or want to try with these cookies. Chocolate chip cake mix cookies work great with a vanilla or white cake mix but I’m sure chocolate, fruit flavors, or even gluten free mixes would work well too!

As long as the ounces are similar to a regular boxed cake mix you won’t have to adjust the other ingredients that we’re using. Also, keep in mind that you will just use the ingredients called for here and that you won’t actually prepare the cake mix as written on the box.

Kitchen essentials for tasty dessert recipes:

When you head into the kitchen to make some of these great recipes you’ll want to have the best tools on hand.

I like half sheet baking pans that are quality (hello no noisy pops or sloshed cookie dough from twisting), I line my cookie sheets with silicone baking mats. These are great for all kinds of baking and not just cookies! My husband loves them for making biscuits, pizzas, and more!

Of course mixing bowls, a mixerspatula, and some whisks should be on your list if you don’t have ones that you love. I also like to have a set of cooling racks so that my recipes can properly cool before they’re scarfed down by my family!
