When fall rolls around I start looking for more indulgent dessert recipes. There is just something about the cooler weather that encourages more time spent in the kitchen doing some baking, cooking, etc. These acorn donut holes are perfect for the holidays.
Not only will these donut holes be a hit with your family and friends, but they are also great to take into the office for a special treat. Bite-sized treats are great for sharing and most people would rather have a little sweet treat than something overly indulgent like a slab of cake, right?!
I’ll show you how quick and easy it is to whip up a batch of these cute and yummy donut holes. Of course, you could also leave off the embellishments and just enjoy the donut holes recipe as is throughout the rest of the year!
Ingredients needed for this donut hole recipe:
- Glazed donut holes (you can make them from scratch like this)
- Chocolate frosting
- Sprinkles
- Pretzel sticks
How to make acorn donut holes:
- Spread about a teaspoon of chocolate frosting to the top ¼ of a donut hole.
- Put sprinkles in a small bowl and dip frosted part.
- Break pretzel sticks in half and press a half into the top of the donut hole.
Tips & Tricks:
Dip pretzel stick into a little bit of frosting before pressing it into the top of “acorn” to help it stay. If you are having trouble getting the acorns to hold together properly you can leave the donuts out for a few hours so that they stiffen up, very fresh donuts might be more difficult to work with.
This recipe doesn’t include a serving size, because you decide whether you would like to make just a few, or the whole box! Also, they are donuts, they’re not exactly a recommended food group so 1 or 2 will be a perfect treat for anyone…or if you are having a bad day and eat half the box I guess that’s fine too 😉
If you are using my recipe linked above to make the donuts from scratch you will just make the donut part of the recipe. Don’t put on the churro flavorings or your acorns will end up looking a little wonky!

It’s been a few years since my daughter made these – we didn’t use sprinkles, though. That would definitely up the fun value! I think I’ll have her make a batch for our next church group gathering.
